Fisherman's Friends Tour
Yet another reason to visit Port Isaac on the north Cornwall coast.
Two movies have been made based loosely on the true story of this famous sea shanty singing group from Port Isaac.
Fisherman’s Friends have found international acclaim since they started singing together in the 1990’s. They still regularly sing at Port Isaac and some of the band actually featured in the films as themselves, with some of the actor/band members becoming actual band members afterwards. Life imitating art!
We regularly visit Port Isaac as part of our north coast tours and of course as the location of the Doc Martin series staring Martin Clunes as a rural GP with a bad bedside manner.
Fisherman’s Friends 2 “One and All”: also features the National Trust owned and managed Doyden Castle which is used as the romantic hideaway for the protagonist and his girlfriend. It was built in about 1830 for the local landowner and bon-viveur who used it to entertain guests and gamble! A lovely walk from Port Isaac South West through the picturesque cove of Port Quin where one of the elder fishermen and his son live and on to Doyden Castle gives an hour out of a tour vehicle to stretch your legs and really appreciate the wild beauty of this coastline.
