What We Do
Over the past couple of years Poldark’s Cornwall has been working hard to bring you everything you need to know about Poldark, the story, the characters and the locations.
We host fully immersive Poldark holidays, offer the only Poldark Tours recommended by Visit Cornwall, the official tourist board and have staged two Poldark Grand Balls to raise much needed funds for The Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, drawing guests from all over the world.
Poldark’s Cornwall has exclusivity to accompany guests to visit the screen home of Ross and Demelza Poldark; NAMPARA. We have also been granted unique access by the film company Mammoth Screen Productions to the location shoots of Poldark in Cornwall, interviewed cast and crew and accompanied our lucky charity auction winning bidders on their trips to set. It has all been a bit of a rollercoaster!
Between engagements, events, tours, talks on Poldark to community groups and visits to set, Poldark’s Cornwall’ s Karen Colam has also been a regular guest on BBC Radio Cornwall for their weekly #PoldarkProbe and the latest #GossOnRoss. Poldark’s Cornwall acts as Poldark consultant to Visit Cornwall and runs the Aidan Turner Facebook fan group “Aidan’s Maidens” which has been featured in Metro newspaper, Cosmopolitan and Heat magazines.
We offer businesses in Cornwall an opportunity to publicise their Poldark related services and products and will continue to engage more and more attractions, restaurant, shops and hotels to bring you a range of fantastic discounts and deals through the Poldark Pass.
Location! Location! Location!
We are based in the heart of Poldark country in Winston Graham’s home town of Perranporth, where Wheal Leisure was at the heart of this thriving former mining community.
Poldark’s Cornwall can show you everywhere that the author of this wonderful saga used for his inspiration.
Cornwall is now in its eighth consecutive year as the top destination for tourists in the U.K. Partly attributable to the Poldark novels and the hit TV series both from its earlier adaptation in the seventies and latterly due the amazing current series which has given the world a glimpse of the rugged beauty and drama of the Atlantic coast or the peaceful, natural havens of the coves of the south coast, its heritage and its well deserved place as a world class destination.
If we have omitted anything, please let us know through our contact page and we will be in touch. It may be in the pipeline, but then again, we might have missed something!
If you want to be part of this exciting project, please let us know. We need businesses, bloggers, lovely places to stay, amazing foods to eat, things to do and see and we will be launching a programme of more events in the near future.
Who We Are
Nice people, wanting to do nice things around the places, books and characters we love so that people get to know the real stories and references behind the books and characters and opening the real Cornwall up to audiences across the globe.
We will be staying in some lovely hotels and quirky little b&bs and showing you some of the amazing talent Cornwall has to offer. Indulging in some gastronomic treats and finding artisan memorabilia and showing some fascinating homages to Graham’s legacy that is Poldark’s Cornwall.
Karen – A HUGE fan of the original Poldark books and TV series, now an even BIGGER fan of the new TV series – thanks to the GORGEOUS Aidan Turner! Karen also simply loves everything to do with Cornwall: from the amazing history and idyllic locations, to the wonder of the Cornish people and laid back lifestyle, “there simply is no place like it!”
The Founder and driving force behind “Poldarkscornwall.com”, Karen has a dream to “share with the world everything that makes this such an amazing, unique, and special place”.
David – After only moving to Cornwall in 2008, David has planted both feet firmly on the solid bedrock of Cornwall and has become outwardly passionate as if he is a “12th generation local”! With a love of all things Cornish, David took to exploring this beautiful county from the day he arrived and is never happier than being out on the mountain bike discovering more hidden gems!
Marina – Born and bred Cornish (she even dances in the Helston ‘Furry’ dance!), with a passion for ethical business. Marina brings to the party a wealth of experience in accounting, and is well respected throughout, the Cornwall business community.
Margaret – Aidan’s Maiden and Poldark tour expert. Margaret is joining us with a wealth of knowledge about Poldark filming locations and an uncanny knack of knowing where film crews may be! Rumour has it she listens to the ground and feels the vibrations of unit trucks from as much as fifty miles!
Spiritual home: Botallack
Kay – Aidan’s Maiden and Poldark tour expert. Kay is happy to be aboard with us as she is so often to be found on the beach at Holywell that the National Trust thought of protecting her for the nation! If there are film crews in the vicinity, Kay will know about it. She has special divining rods for the divine Mr Turner!
Nina – Aidan’s Maiden and Poldark, London tour expert. Nina has lived in London all her life and dedicated the past few years to amassing an awesome collection of Aidan Turner mugs as well as the national collection of Cluedo games (honestly, it’s amazing!!). Nina’s knowledge of London and the Poldark connection is further enhanced by her hospitality and hilarious stories of the London you never knew!!
Caroline – Aidan’s Maiden and Expert on gardening in Cornwall. Caroline has been researching what might really have grown in Demelza’s garden. We think getting Hollyhocks to withstand the north coast Atlantic gales was just a bit ambitious. New for 2017 we will be offering tours of Demelza’s Great Cornish Gardens with Caroline.
Irene – Aidan’s Maiden and Poldark tour expert in and around Bath. Without any need for a restraining order Irene manages to know where and when film crews will be around her area before even they do. The great estates of the Bath area have provided the backdrop for many of the estates in the Poldark series as well as some of the atmospheric interiors, including the infamous Jail cells. In September Irene and husband Geoff migrate south west to Cornwall to exercise their binocular lifting muscles!
